Meet the Members: Jan Sikes

“While I never had any ambition in life to be an author, I wouldn’t take anything for this journey. The people I’ve met, the things I’ve learned and the stories I’ve written are priceless to me.“

— Jan Sikes

A member of the Writers’ League since 2014, Jan lives in Plano, TX.

Scribe: Welcome, writer! Tell us — what do you write?

Jan Sikes: I began my writing journey with a true story that took 4 books to tell. I then published a book of poetry and art. After that, I delved into writing short stories in all different genres. I have published nine and out of the nine, three have won prestigious awards. I am currently writing a series of Romantic Suspense novels.

Scribe: If you could choose one author to blurb your book, who would it be, and what would you want it to say?

JS:  Delia Owens – “A well-crafted story told straight from the author’s heart.”

Scribe: You have one book you’re allowed to push onto all of your friends, and they’re forced to read it to remain your friend — which one would you choose?

JS: GHOSTLY INTERFERENCE by Jan Sikes.

Scribe: Tell us your WLT story.

JS: In 2018, I was a finalist in the WLT Manuscript contest. That gave me the encouragement I needed to keep pushing this manuscript for publication. In 2020, it was published by The Wild Rose Press.

Scribe: Where do you see your writing taking you (or you taking it) in the future?

JS: I’d love to show up on a Bestseller list!

Scribe: Here at the WLT, we love sharing book recommendations. What’s one book that has come out within the past year that you couldn’t put down? (Bonus points if the book is Texas related!)

JS: THE BRIGANDS by Parris Afton Bonds!

Scribe: Is there anything else about you that you would like to share with the world? An opportunity for blatant self-promotion!

JS: While I never had any ambition in life to be an author, I wouldn’t take anything for this journey. The people I’ve met, the things I’ve learned and the stories I’ve written are priceless to me! I love telling stories that evoke some sort of emotion from the reader and from the reviews, I accomplish that!
