While I love consuming horror novels. short stories, and horror films, I’ve never attempted to write a horror story before. What scares me the most about the genre is that so much hinges on your ability to scare people with your words alone. Film and television get the added benefit of sound effects, a set, hair and makeup, and more, but writers don’t get any of that on the page. I’ll admit, there are two sides of this coin because it also means that horror writers aren’t constrained by the things we can make happen. But for horror writers who are just getting started, it can still feel pretty daunting.
That’s why we’re excited to offer the class “Horror Writing: Haunted Houses, Haunted Bodies, Haunted Babies” with Jessica Bross on Saturday, October 23. If you’re writing horror or you’re curious about what it takes to scare people, this class is for you.
All the best,
