Letters from the Program Director: Get Your Synopsis Right!

Hello, Writers!

So much of what we do here at the WLT is focused on helping aspiring authors understand the business of publishing. During my time here I’ve heard a lot about the most daunting parts of the process, and the agent search is definitely one of those parts. That’s why we came up with WLT’s Intensives Week to help writers not only understand what materials they need to start preparing for the agent search, but to help them hone those materials as well.

One of the most dreaded materials related to the agent search is the synopsis. Nine times out of ten, agents will ask for a synopsis along with a query letter, which leaves many writers scrambling to get it right. We all know the query letter is incredibly important, but so is the synopsis. If you’re having trouble with your synopsis, we encourage you to sign up for one of the two intensives we have coming up before spots sell out. This is an incredible opportunity to not only hear what folks are looking for in synopses, but to also get feedback on your own. We hope see you there!

All the best,
Sam Babiak
Program Director
