Letters from the Program Director: Keep the Crowd from Getting Crowded

Hello, writers!

From Lord of the Rings to Game of Thrones and beyond some of the most beloved books of all time include ensemble casts. We know readers love them, but how do writers accomplish them?

Well, whether you’re writing realistic fiction, a science fiction/fantasy adventure, or whether you’re writing for young people or adults, if you’re writing an ensemble cast each character not only needs to stand out and be their own, but they also have to feel important to the overall story. Luckily, New York Times bestselling author Tracy Wolff has accomplished this again and again and she’s picked up some tips and tricks along the way.

That’s why we’re excited to be offering the class “Not Just One of the Gang: Writing Ensemble Casts” with Tracy Wolff on Wednesday, September 21st. If you’re writing a novel or short story with a large cast of characters and are having trouble making each one stand out, this class is for you.

All the best,
Sam Babiak
Program Director
