The 2023 Agents Symposium is a curated year-long experience (February through November) that brings writers into a virtual space to connect with and learn about publishing today from featured literary agents.
On Saturday, July 15, join us for the July Agents Symposium presentation:
In this presentation we’ll review the most important document in the publishing journey (besides the book itself!): the author contract. From financial terms to legal obligations to the editorial process to the distribution of rights, it’s both a roadmap to the publishing experience and an outline of worst-case scenarios. While contracts vary from publisher to publisher and deal to deal, this presentation will walk you through the basics so you know what to expect when you sign on that dotted line.
The 30-minute presentation will be followed by a moderated conversation and an audience Q&A. For the conversation, our presenter Lauren E. Abramo will be joined by WLT ED Becka Oliver.
Do you have burning questions about publishing contracts that you want to make sure we answer? You can share them with us ahead of the event via this form and then tune in for the live webinar on Saturday, July 15 where all will be revealed. The deadline to submit your questions is Thursday, July 13 at 5 PM CT (questions will also be accepted via the Q&A box during the event).
If you cannot make the live webinar, everyone who registers will receive access to the event recording for one month.
Registration for this presentation will close on Friday, July 14 at 5:00 PM CT.
About the 2023 Agents Symposium:
The 2023 Agents Symposium is a curated year-long experience (February through November) that brings writers into a virtual space to connect with and learn from ten literary agents who are at the top of their game.
The ten participating literary agents represent a wide array of genres and categories. They have a cumulative 100+ years of experience in the publishing industry and they work at established literary agencies and with an impressive roster of clients. You can find the full list of participating agents here.
Each of the participating literary agents will join us for a Saturday session where they’ll give a presentation on a topic related to traditional publishing, followed by a conversation with a WLT staffer and closing with an extended Q&A.
