The One Page Salon (called “the best literary evening in town” by the Austin American-Statesman) is a monthly reading series presented by the Writers’ League of Texas.
Please note: May One Page Salon will take place at RADIO/EAST, and not the typical Radio Coffee & Beer.
Five outstanding writers will read one page from a work in progress or recently published work, which means the audience will be among the first to hear new material from our talented line-up, including writers Juli Berwald, Callie Collins, Rosemary Guzman Hook, Jeanette Horn, and Gary Keith. Plus, there will be literary chit chat and fun & games and laughter and so much more.
This month, One Page Salon will take place on the lovely outdoor patio (weather permitting) at RADIO/EAST in Austin where attendees can enjoy coffee and beer and other libations. There are some tasty food trucks if you want to pick up a bite to eat and Reverie Books will be on hand selling an assortment of great reads, including our readers’ latest books. Your host for the evening will be Becka Oliver.

Juli Berwald received her PhD in Ocean Science from the University of Southern California. The author of Spineless and Life on the Rocks, which was an L.A. Times Book Prize finalist, she has written for a number of publications including National Geographic, Texas Monthly, Smithsonian, Nature, and Science. Juli is the Embajadora de los Arrecifes in Tela, Honduras where she has also co-founded the non-profit Tela Coral to support an unusually healthy reef. -
Callie Collins is a writer and editor from Texas. She cofounded A Strange Object, a small fiction-focused press based in Austin, and she received her MFA from the University of Michigan, where she won several Hopwood Awards. She was a 2018-2019 Zell Postgraduate Fellow in the Helen Zell Writers’ Program and a 2019-2020 Fiction Fellow at the Fine Arts Work Center in Provincetown, Massachusetts. Her first book—Walk Softly on this Heart of Mine, a novel—was published in March 2025 from Doubleday. She lives in Austin and plays sandlot baseball for the Cap City Cobras.

A writer, a runner, and a talent recruiter, Rosemary Guzman Hook tells true tales on the stage and the page in the U.S. and the U.K. She’s won two Moth StorySLAMS in Houston and in London and opened at the Paramount Theatre ATX in 2024 for The Moth’s annual mainstage event. Rosemary also launched two one-act plays, The Mystery of the Plaid Shirts and A Pest Control Affair, via Hyde Park’s Frontera Fest and, as of Tax Day 2025, she has completed her first screenplay, Pickled, a comedy adventure about the intimacy needs & wants of middle-aged women. Jeanette Horn holds an MFA from The University of Iowa Writers' Workshop, where she received a Maytag Fellowship. Her poetry has appeared in Margie, Poetry International, Stand, and other literary journals. Play, With Knives is her first novel. She lives in Austin, Texas. -
Gary Keith has belonged to the Writers’ League of Texas for three years and is a member of a small writers’ group—the OldSchoolers—that formed out of the Agents and Editors Conference.
He spent his career in state government, politics, policy analysis, and academia. Just last week he finished teaching a 6-week seminar on Democracy. Keith’s publications include a Texas Politics textbook, an analysis of Texas redistricting, and a biography of Congressman Bob Eckhardt—which was a finalist for the Writers’ League Violet Crown Award for Nonfiction in 2008. In 2023 his poetic essay "On Turning 70, in Texas" was published in Huston-Tillotson University's 900 Chicon literary journal. Now in his semi-retirement he is turning all of that experience into stories of fiction—which are based here in and around Austin, at our state capitol, and on the Forty Acres. AUSTIN BLUES and a soon-to-be second novel are both drawn from his experiences as a longtime Austinite engaged with its politics, culture, and music scene.

Class & Event Registration Policy
Once a purchase has been made, registrations are not refundable and cannot be transferred to a different class or event. No exceptions will be made. If you purchase a registration and then find you cannot attend the class or event, someone else can attend in your stead. Simply contact us at wlt@writersleague.org and let us know the name and contact information for the person who will be using the registration so that we can update the class or event roster.

Anti-Harassment Policy
The Writers’ League of Texas is dedicated to providing harassment-free spaces for everyone, regardless of gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, race, age, or religion. We do not tolerate harassment in any form. Violating these rules may result in expulsion from WLT programs without a refund at the discretion of the WLT staff.
Harassment includes, but is not limited to:
- Comments that reinforce social structures of domination (related to gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, race, age, or religion);
- Sexual images not appropriate for the specific subject of the public discussion;
- Deliberate intimidation or stalking;
- Harassing photography or recording;
- Sustained disruption of discussions or other events;
- Unwelcome sexual attention;
- Advocating for, or encouraging, any of the above behavior.
Enforcement
Participants asked to stop any harassing behavior are expected to comply immediately. If a participant engages in harassing behavior, event organizers retain the right to take any actions to keep the event a welcoming environment for all participants. This includes warning the offender or expulsion from the event with no refund. Event organizers may take action to redress anything designed to, or with the clear impact of, disrupting the event or making the environment hostile for any participants. We expect participants to follow these rules during all events and event-related social activities.
Reporting
If someone makes you or anyone else feel unsafe or unwelcome, please report it as soon as possible. Reports can also be made via email at wlt@writersleague.org. We’ll handle any and all reports as respectfully as possible. You won’t be asked to confront anyone, and we won’t tell anyone who you are.
