One Page Salon

June 4 2024 7:30 PM - 10:00 PM CDT

  • This event has passed.

The One Page Salon (called “the best literary evening in town” by the Austin American-Statesman) is a monthly reading series presented by the Writers’ League of Texas.

Five outstanding writers – including Sam Babiak, Roanna Flowers, Taylor Howell, Ehigbor Okosun, and Madeline Vosch – will read one page from a work in progress or recently published work, which means the audience will be among the first to hear new material from our talented line-up. Plus, there will be literary chit chat and fun & games and laughter and so much more.

The One Page Salon takes place on the lovely outdoor patio (weather permitting) at Radio Coffee & Beer in South Austin where attendees can enjoy coffee and beer and other libations. There are some tasty food trucks if you want to pick up a bite to eat and Reverie Books will be on hand selling an assortment of great reads, including our readers’ latest books. Your host for the evening will be WLT Executive Director Becka Oliver.

Featured Presenter(s)

Sam Babiak earned a B.A. in English Literature with a certificate in Creative Writing with Honors from the University of Texas at Austin. Before joining Aevitas Creative Management as the Operations Assistant in 2023, she was the Program Director for the Writers’ League of Texas. She loves talking to writers about their craft and has moderated panels and conversations with the WLT, the Texas Book Festival, the San Antonio Book Festival, HavenCon, and BookPeople. Originally from Laredo, Texas, she is based in Austin, Texas.
Roanna Flowers is a writer based in Austin, Texas. Her short story "The Bitches of Eastwick" was recently published in the anthology, Mixed Bag of Tricks. She is the writer of three award-winning short films, one of which played in over 30 festivals world-wide including the Cannes Short Film Corner. Roanna is the former editor of Treatment Today magazine, for which she interviewed Ann Richards, General Colin Powell, and composer Paul Williams. Her claim to fame was asking a question that made Ann Richards speechless. She is currently querying her first novel and writing her second.
Taylor Howell is an internationally published fiction author based in San Marcos, Texas. Her writing has appeared in the Rio Review and the Surrentum. She has a BA with a Focus on Fiction Writing and a Psychology Minor from Texas State University. She is currently working on the third draft of her fantasy horror reimagining of The OdysseyThe Coven of Ravens. When she’s not writing she’s grabbing a drink with friends, gushing about her most recent read, or watching horror movies.
Ehigbor Okosun (Eh-hee-bor Oh-koh-soon), or just Ehi, is the #1 Sunday Times Bestselling author of Forged by Blood, the first in a Nigerian mythology epic fantasy duology. Raised across four continents, she now resides in the Southern United States, where she writes speculative fiction, mystery thrillers, and contemporary novels for adult and YA audiences. She writes in hopes of doing justice to the myths and traditions she grew up steeped in, and to honor her large, multiracial and multiethnic family. She is a graduate of the University of Texas with degrees in Plan II Honors, Neurolinguistics, and English, as well as Chemistry and Pre-Medical studies and is a Cynthia Leitich Smith Mentorship Award finalist. When she’s not reading, you can catch her bullet journalling, gaming, baking, singing, doing yoga and spending time with her loved ones. At the moment, she is hard at work at Forged By Blood’s sequel, Exiled by Iron, which will be available where books are sold on 10 September 2024.
Madeline Vosch is a writer, translator, and teacher. Her work has appeared in The Washington Post, The Rumpus, and The Offing, among others. She contributed translations of Lida Yusupova's poetry, published in the collection The Scar We Know (Cicada Press, 2021). Her first book, Undead: A Memoir, is forthcoming from Beacon Press. She was awarded a fellowship to Aspen Words in 2020 and 2021 on the basis of this manuscript, and an excerpt was selected as the winner of the Ploughshares Emerging Writer Contest in Nonfiction in 2021.
