This July, we can’t wait to bring back our Saturday Craft Seminars with two exciting books. The first (on July 8th) will feature Matt Bird and his craft book The Secrets of Character: Writing a Hero Anyone Will Love and the second (on July 29th) will feature Chuck Wendig and his book Gentle Writing Advice: How to Be a Writer Without Destroying Yourself.
IMPORTANT: If you are registered for the 2023 Summer Writing Retreat your registration will include access to both WLT Saturday Craft Seminars in July (plus the books). You DO NOT need to purchase a registration via this page. For more information on the Summer Writing Retreat, click here.
About the event:
In this interactive lecture, New York Times bestselling author, Chuck Wendig, will talk about the many peaks and valleys of being a published author and, in particular, how to practice true self-care in protecting yourself, your time, and your craft while pursuing the written word as a career.
Wendig will offer practical advice on not destroying yourself and your creativity while also talking about his own experiences in and out of the publishing industry, having written across a number of genres, age ranges, and into other media like film/TV and comic books. Come loaded with questions! Wendig will gladly A all your Qs about the trials and tribulations of being a writer today.
About the book:
Finally–a book of writing advice that accounts for all of the messy, perverse, practical, and inexplicable parts of being a human who writes
The truth is that all of the “writing rules” you’ve learned are bullshit. Sure, they work for some people, but the likelihood that they’ll work for you–unique butterfly of a person that you are–is slim.
That doesn’t mean you’re out of luck! There is meaningful advice to be had in the writing world, and Chuck Wendig is here to deliver it. In this hilarious guide, Wendig will help you discover more about yourself as a writer, parse through your quirks and foibles, and help you figure out the best way for you to get words on the page–without destroying yourself along the way.
With behind-the-scenes stories of Wendig’s own writing struggles, sections on debunking popular advice, self-care tips, and more footnotes than are strictly necessary (or legally recommended by scientists), Gentle Writing Advice will give the unvarnished truth about the writing process and remind you of what’s actually important–taking care of the writer. (That’s you, by the way.)
This event will take place on Zoom. All registrants will receive a link to the live webinar and will have access to the recording for a full 30 days after the event. Which means, if you can’t join us in person you won’t miss a thing!
