The One Page Salon (called “the best literary evening in town” by the Austin American-Statesman) is a monthly reading series presented by the Writers’ League of Texas.
On Tuesday, September 2, join us for our next edition of the one-of-a-kind One Page Salon! It will be a night of revelry and literary fun. Five outstanding writers – (WLT’s own) Sarah Renee Beach, Ashley Robin Franklin, Jessica Goudeau, Seth Harp, and Megan Okonsky – will read one page from a work in progress or recently published work, which means the audience will be among the first to hear new material from our talented line-up. Your host for the evening will be Becka Oliver.
The One Page Salon takes place on the lovely outdoor patio (weather permitting) at Radio Coffee & Beer in South Austin where attendees can enjoy coffee and beer and other libations. There are some food trucks if you want to pick up a tasty bite to eat and Reverie Books will be on hand selling an assortment of great reads, including our readers’ latest books.

WLT Program Director Sarah Renee Beach is an Austin-based poet and writer originally from Southeast Texas. She received her MFA in Creative Writing from The New School and is an alum of the Tin House Summer Workshop. Her poetry chapbook Impact won Sundress Publications’ 2022 Chapbook Contest, and her nonfiction can be found in The Sewanee Review and, later this year, in the Indiana Review. 
Ashley Robin Franklin is a queer cartoonist and illustrator. They're based in Austin, Texas, where they live with their partner and their goofy tiny dogs. Ashley Robin makes sweet and spooky comics with horror and fantasy elements. Their debut YA graphic novel, The Hills of Estrella Roja, was published by Clarion Books/Harper Collins in August of 2023. In 2024, they released their adult horror comics collection, The Skin You're In, with Silver Sprocket. They’re currently working on a series of Middle Grade graphic novels, the first titled The Girl Who Loved Monsters, made in collaboration with writer Insha Fitzpatrick.
Ashley Robin in was born in 1990 in the Rio Grande Valley, (that's south South Texas) where they grew up and attended the University of Texas Pan-American. Ashley currently co- hosts Inky Eyes, a quarterly indie comic reading series and mixer, that takes place at Alienated Majesty Books.-
Jessica Goudeau is the author of After the Last Border: Two Families and the Story of Refuge in America, which won the J. Anthony Lukas Book Prize and a Christopher Award. It was named a New York Times Editors’ Choice book, World Magazine’s “Understanding the World” Book of the Year, a Library Journal “Best Social Science Book of the Year” and one of Chicago Public Library’s “Best Books of 2020”; it was a finalist for the Writer’s League of Texas Nonfiction Book Award, a finalist for the BookTube Prize, shortlisted for the Chautauqua Prize, and longlisted for the Reading the West Narrative Nonfiction Award. Her next nonfiction book, We Were Illegal, will also be with Viking. She has been a columnist for Catapult and has written for The New York Times, The Atlantic, Washington Post, Los Angeles Times, and Teen Vogue, among many other places. She produced projects for Teen Vogue (“Ask a Syrian Girl”) and “A Line Birds Cannot See,” a documentary about a young girl who crossed the border into the US on her own that was distributed by The New Yorker. She has a PhD in literature from the University of Texas, served as a Mellon Writing Fellow and Interim Writing Center Director at Southwestern University, was a Visiting Professor at Sewanee School of Letters, and teaches Creative Nonfiction at Wilkes University. Goudeau has spent more than a decade working with refugees in Austin, Texas and was the co-founder of Hill Tribers, a nonprofit that provided supplemental income for Burmese refugee artisans for seven years until it successfully ended when the last artisan found full-time employment. -
Seth Harp is an investigative reporter and foreign correspondent who writes about the intersection of armed conflict and organized crime. A contributing editor at Rolling Stone, he has reported from countries including Iraq, Syria, Mexico, Ukraine, and elsewhere for Harper’s, the New Yorker, The Intercept, and Columbia Journalism Review. He has also written for the New York Times and the Texas Observer. He is currently working on a book for Viking Press about drug-trafficking in the U.S. Army Special Forces and a series of unsolved murders at Fort Bragg, North Carolina.

Megan Okonsky is a ghostwriter, novelist, and murder mystery party host. As a ghostwriter, she specializes in helping business leaders uncover their “hero’s journey.” As a novelist, she writes about cats and queer joy. She lives in Austin, Texas, with her wife and their cat, Funny Business.

Class & Event Registration Policy
Once a purchase has been made, registrations are not refundable and cannot be transferred to a different class or event. No exceptions will be made. If you purchase a registration and then find you cannot attend the class or event, someone else can attend in your stead. Simply contact us at wlt@writersleague.org and let us know the name and contact information for the person who will be using the registration so that we can update the class or event roster.

Anti-Harassment Policy
The Writers’ League of Texas is dedicated to providing harassment-free spaces for everyone, regardless of gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, race, age, or religion. Harassment includes, but is not limited to:

- Sexual images not appropriate for the specific subject of the public discussion;
- Deliberate intimidation or stalking;
- Harassing photography or recording;
- Sustained disruption of discussions or other events;
- Unwelcome sexual attention;
- Advocating for, or encouraging, any of the above behavior.
Enforcement
Participants asked to stop any harassing behavior are expected to comply immediately. If a participant engages in harassing behavior, event organizers retain the right to take any actions to keep the event a welcoming environment for all participants. This includes warning the offender or expulsion from the event with no refund. Event organizers may take action to redress anything designed to, or with the clear impact of, disrupting the event or making the environment hostile for any participants. We expect participants to follow these rules during all events and event-related social activities.
Reporting
If someone makes you or anyone else feel unsafe or unwelcome, please report it as soon as possible. Reports can also be made via email at wlt@writersleague.org. We’ll handle any and all reports as respectfully as possible. You won’t be asked to confront anyone, and we won’t tell anyone who you are.
