Texas Writes in Columbus, TX

Texas Writes is a statewide program that brings accomplished authors to rural libraries for a half day of presentations and panel discussions focused on the craft of writing.

Our Columbus, TX event features Jennifer duBois presenting “Where to Begin?: Ideas, Outlines and Getting Started” and Sindya Bhanoo presenting “The Stories We Must Tell”.

We’ll start at 10:00 AM CST with our presentations and we’ll conclude with a conversation with both authors, moderated by WLT Executive Director Becka Oliver.

Jennifer duBois headshotJennifer duBois is the author of A Partial History of Lost Causes, which won a California Book Award for Fiction, a Northern California Book Award for First Fiction, and was a finalist for the PEN/Hemingway Prize for Debut Fiction. The National Book Foundation named her one of its 5 Under 35 authors. Her second novel, Cartwheel, was the winner of the Housatonic Book Award for fiction and was a finalist for a New York Public Library Young Lions Award. An alumna of the Iowa Writers’ Workshop and Stanford University’s Stegner Fellowship, duBois is the recipient of a Whiting Writers’ Award and a National Endowment for the Arts Creative Writing Fellowship. Her writing has appeared in The New York TimesThe Wall Street JournalPlayboyLapham’s Quarterly, American Short Fiction, The Missouri ReviewThe Kenyon ReviewSalonCosmopolitanZYZZYVA, and elsewhere. A native of western Massachusetts, duBois teaches in the MFA program at Texas State University.
Sindya Bhanoo is a fiction writer and journalist. She has worked as a reporter for The New York TimesThe Washington Post and The Industry Standard. Her fiction has appeared in American Literary Review and Glimmer Train. She holds an MFA from the Michener Center for Writers and currently lives in Austin, Texas.
