Texas Writes in Robstown, TX

Texas Writes is a statewide program that brings accomplished authors to rural libraries for a half day of presentations and panel discussions focused on the craft of writing.

Our Robstown, TX event will take place at the Keach Family Library Branch of the Nueces County Public Library and will feature Rubén Degollado presenting “Mining Memory to Write YA” and Charlotte Gullick presenting “The Essential Role of Pacing”.

We’ll start at 10:00 AM CST with our presentations and we’ll conclude with a conversation with both authors, moderated by WLT Executive Director Becka Oliver.

Featured Presenter(s)

Charlotte Gullick is a novelist, essayist, editor, and educator. She is a first generation college graduate and holds a MA in Creative Nonfiction (Institute of American Indian Arts) and a MA in English/Creative Writing (UC Davis). Her nonfiction has appeared in The Rumpus, Brevity, The Best of Brevity, Pembroke, Dogwood, Barnstorm Journal, and the LA Review. Her other awards include a Christopher Isherwood Fiction Fellowship, a Colorado Council on the Arts Poetry Fellowship, Grand Prize from the Santa Fe Writers Project, residencies at MacDowell Colony and Ragdale, the Evergreen State College 2012 Teacher Excellence Award, and the Gold Star for Teaching and Mentorship from American Short Fiction.  
Rubén Degollado headshot Rubén Degollado’s work has appeared or is forthcoming in Lithub, The Common, Texas Highways, and the recent anthologies Living Beyond Borders and Nepantla Familias. His first novel Throw received the Texas Institute of Letters 2020 Best Young Adult Book Award. The Family Izquierdo, his debut literary novel, was a Kirkus Reviews Best Book of 2022, a New York Times Book Review Editor’s Choice, Texas Institute of Letters Fiction Finalist, and a PEN/Faulkner nominee. He lives in and writes about the Río Grande Valley of Texas.
