Texas Writes in Robstown, TX

Texas Writes is a statewide program that brings accomplished authors to rural libraries for a half day of presentations and panel discussions focused on the craft of writing.

Our Robstown, TX event will take place at the Keach Family Library Branch of the Nueces County Public Library and will feature Rubén Degollado presenting “Mining Memory to Write YA” and Charlotte Gullick presenting “The Essential Role of Pacing”.

We’ll start at 10:00 AM CST with our presentations and we’ll conclude with a conversation with both authors, moderated by WLT Executive Director Becka Oliver.

Featured Presenter(s)

Charlotte Gullick is Chair of the Creative Writing Department at Austin Community College. She holds BA in Literature/Creative Writing from UC Santa Cruz and a MA in English/Creative Writing from UC Davis as well as a MFA in Creative Nonfiction from the Institute of American Indian Arts. Her awards include a Christopher Isherwood Fellowship for Fiction, a Colorado Council on the Arts Fellowship for Poetry, and residencies at MacDowell and Ragdale. She is the author of the novel By Way of Water.
Rubén Degollado is the author of Throw, which won the Texas Institute of Letters 2020 Award for Best Young Adult Book and was included on the Texas Library Association’s 2020 TAYSHAS list of best books for teen readers. His second book, The Family Izquierdo, a collection of short stories, will be published by WW Norton in 2022. He lives in and writes about the Río Grande Valley of Texas and has been an educator for over twenty years.
