Texas Writes in Whitehouse, TX

Texas Writes is a statewide program that brings accomplished authors to rural libraries for a half day of presentations and panel discussions focused on the craft of writing.

Our Whitehouse, TX event will feature Alex Temblador presenting “Crafting Your Character” and Samantha M Clark presenting “How to Write a Novel Without Getting Lost”.

We’ll start at 1:00 PM CDT with our presentations and we’ll conclude with a conversation with both authors, moderated by WLT Executive Director Becka Oliver.

Samantha M ClarkSamantha M Clark is the award-winning author of The Boy, The Boat, and The Beast and Arrow (both published by Paula Wiseman Books/Simon & Schuster) and American Horse Tales: Hollywood (Penguin Workshop/Penguin Random House), as well as the Gemstones Dragons chapter book series (Bloomsbury). She has always loved stories about ordinary people in extraordinary circumstances. After all, if four ordinary brothers and sisters can find a magical world at the back of a wardrobe, why can’t she? While she looks for her real-life Narnia, she writes about other ordinary children and teens who’ve stumbled into a wardrobe of their own. In a past life, Samantha was a photojournalist and managing editor for newspapers and magazines. She lives with her husband and two funny dogs in Austin, Texas. Samantha is the Regional Advisor for the Austin chapter of the Society of Children’s Book Writers & Illustrators, and explores wardrobes every chance she gets. Alex Temblador is the award-winning author of Secrets of the Casa Rosada and Half Outlaw. Her forthcoming non-fiction craft writing book, Writing an Identity Not Your Own, will be published by St. Martin’s Essentials on August 13, 2024. She has an essay in Living Beyond Borders: Growing Up Mexican in America and a short story in Speculative Fiction for Dreamers: A Latinx Anthology. Based in Dallas, Texas, Alex runs the literary panel series called LitTalk.
