One Page Salon

December 5 2023 7:30 PM - 10:00 PM CST

The One Page Salon (called “the best literary evening in town” by the Austin American-Statesman) is a monthly reading series presented by the Writers’ League of Texas.

Five outstanding writers will read one page from a work in progress – which means the audience will be among the first to hear original new material from our talented line-up.

The One Page Salon takes place on the lovely outdoor patio (weather permitting) at Radio Coffee & Beer in South Austin where attendees can enjoy coffee and beer and other libations. There are some tasty food trucks if you want to pick up a bite to eat and Reverie Books will be on hand selling an assortment of great reads, including our readers’ latest books.

The Austin Chronicle once said Jason Neulander has “a seemingly inexhaustible ability to surprise. And thrill. And horrify. And amuse. And intrigue.” But Jason is more than the sum of his radically unmanageable facial hairs. He is the author of numerous plays and screenplays, a narrative podcast, and two novels. He’s also directed many plays and a few movies over the years including the live show The Intergalactic Nemesis, which toured the world for most of the 2010s and starred Conan O’Brien for three minutes; and a surreal art film entitled Fugitive Dreams (currently 100% Fresh on Rotten Tomatoes), which gets released to the public in January. He’s won enough awards to keep his fragile ego whole, but the one that means the most to him was a championship at Literary Death Match.
Kelis Rowe is a stay-at-home mom and former homeschooler who writes sweeping, classic teen romance novels from the points of view of grounded, self-possessed Black girls and the Black teen boys who just gotta love ‘em. Her debut novel, Finding Jupiter, is a contemporary literary romance about a James Taylor and Beyoncé fan and a champion swimmer bonding through shared grief and falling in love one fateful summer. It incorporates journal pages of art and found poetry from the pages of classic novels including The Great Gatsby and Their Eyes Were Watching God. Kelis writes novels that her 90’s teen self would have loved, out of her suburban home near Austin, TX.
