The One Page Salon (called “the best literary evening in town” by the Austin American-Statesman) is a monthly reading series presented by the Writers’ League of Texas.
Five outstanding writers will read one page from a work in progress – including new WLT Program Director Sarah Renee Beach, author and illustrator Edward Carey, OPS lottery winner Bri Dworsack, writer and TBF staffer Jose Rodriguez, and poet and story writer Kirk Wilson – which means the audience will be among the first to hear original new material from our talented line-up.
The One Page Salon takes place on the lovely outdoor patio (weather permitting) at Radio Coffee & Beer in South Austin where attendees can enjoy coffee and beer and other libations. There are some tasty food trucks if you want to pick up a bite to eat and Reverie Books will be on hand selling an assortment of great reads, including our readers’ latest books.

WLT Program Director Sarah Renee Beach is an Austin-based poet and writer originally from Southeast Texas. She received her MFA in Creative Writing from The New School and is an alum of the Tin House Summer Workshop. Her poetry chapbook Impact won Sundress Publications’ 2022 Chapbook Contest, and her nonfiction can be found in The Sewanee Review and, later this year, in the Indiana Review. -
Edward Carey is a novelist, visual artist, and playwright. His latest novel, Edith Holler, publishes in October 2023. His previous novels include The Swallowed Man, Little, Alva & Irva, and Observatory Mansions, and an acclaimed series for young adults, the Iremonger Trilogy. His writing for the stage includes an adaptation of Robert Coover’s Pinocchio in Venice, a continuation of the Pinocchio story. Born in England, he now teaches at the University of Texas in Austin, where he lives with his wife, the author Elizabeth McCracken, and their family. -
Bri Dworsack is an active member of the local writing community and a former editorial intern at Yellow Bird Editors. She is a long-time writer working on a novel and a collection of short stories. Her areas of focus are mystery/thriller and literary fiction. Her short story, "Divinity", was published in the Fall 2022 edition of Wrongdoing Magazine and nominated for the Best of the Net Anthology. -
Jose Rodriguez serves as Texas Book Festival’s Communications & PR Coordinator. He holds a B.A. in English with a creative writing focus in fiction from Texas State University. He has volunteered with the Writers’ League of Texas and Austin Bat Cave and serves as a reader for Story Magazine. In his free time, Jose enjoys roller skating, dancing with his friends, and writing stories that use the speculative and absurd as vehicles to expound on identity, sexuality, race, and class. -
Kirk Wilson’s books include the story collection Out of Season, the poetry collection Songbox, the poetry chapbook The Early Word, and Unsolved, a nonfiction crime study published in six editions in the US and UK. Kirk’s fiction, nonfiction, and poetry are widely published in literary journals and anthologies. His awards include an National Endowment for the Arts Fellowship, the Elixir Press Fiction Award, the Trio House Press Trio Award, Editor’s Awards and other prizes in all three genres, and two Pushcart nominations. Kirk’s past lives include adventures in film, journalism, and advertising. He lives in Austin, Texas with his wife Donna M. Johnson, author of the memoir Holy Ghost Girl.

Class & Event Registration Policy
Once a purchase has been made, registrations are not refundable and cannot be transferred to a different class or event. No exceptions will be made. If you purchase a registration and then find you cannot attend the class or event, someone else can attend in your stead. Simply contact us at wlt@writersleague.org and let us know the name and contact information for the person who will be using the registration so that we can update the class or event roster.

Anti-Harassment Policy
The Writers’ League of Texas is dedicated to providing harassment-free spaces for everyone, regardless of gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, race, age, or religion. We do not tolerate harassment in any form. Violating these rules may result in expulsion from WLT programs without a refund at the discretion of the WLT staff.
Harassment includes, but is not limited to:
- Comments that reinforce social structures of domination (related to gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, race, age, or religion);
- Sexual images not appropriate for the specific subject of the public discussion;
- Deliberate intimidation or stalking;
- Harassing photography or recording;
- Sustained disruption of discussions or other events;
- Unwelcome sexual attention;
- Advocating for, or encouraging, any of the above behavior.
Enforcement
Participants asked to stop any harassing behavior are expected to comply immediately. If a participant engages in harassing behavior, event organizers retain the right to take any actions to keep the event a welcoming environment for all participants. This includes warning the offender or expulsion from the event with no refund. Event organizers may take action to redress anything designed to, or with the clear impact of, disrupting the event or making the environment hostile for any participants. We expect participants to follow these rules during all events and event-related social activities.
Reporting
If someone makes you or anyone else feel unsafe or unwelcome, please report it as soon as possible. Reports can also be made via email at wlt@writersleague.org. We’ll handle any and all reports as respectfully as possible. You won’t be asked to confront anyone, and we won’t tell anyone who you are.

Credit Card Transaction Handling Fee Policy
