One Page Salon

October 3, 2023 7:30 PM - 10:00 PM CDT

  • This event has passed.

The One Page Salon (called “the best literary evening in town” by the Austin American-Statesman) is a monthly reading series presented by the Writers’ League of Texas.

Five outstanding writers – including Wendi Aarons, (OPS lottery winner!) Felix Cileli, David Wright Faladé, Tonia Ransom, and Chaitali Sen – will read one page from a work in progress – which means the audience will be among the first to hear original new material from our talented line-up.

The One Page Salon takes place on the lovely outdoor patio (weather permitting) at Radio Coffee & Beer in South Austin where attendees can enjoy coffee and beer and other libations. There are some tasty food trucks if you want to pick up a bite to eat and Reverie Books will be on hand selling an assortment of great reads, including our readers’ latest books.

We hope to see you there!

Featured Presenter(s)

Wendi Aarons’ writing has appeared in The New Yorker Daily Shouts, McSweeney’s Internet Tendency, US Weekly, Texas Monthly, and other outlets. She’s also the Austin-based author of the middle grade novel Ginger Mancino, Kid Comedian and the humor memoir I'm Wearing Tunics Now. She's a popular speaker and humor-writing teacher for both kids and adults.
Felix Cileli is a 12-year-old boy with a passion for writing and an impressive list of hobbies. He's a pianist, swimmer, YouTuber, mediocre gamer, and an occasional sports player but writing is one of his favorite activities. He loves crafting stories that capture his unique voice and perspective. Felix currently lives in south Austin with his parents, and 3 animals: 2 brothers and a cat named Nala. He’s a graduate of the Badgerdog Creative Writing Summer Camp and current member of Cate Berry’s Middle School Writing Circle.
David Wright Faladé is the author of three books: the narrative history Fire on the Beach: Recovering the Lost Story of Richard Etheridge and the Pea Island Lifesavers, and the novels Away Running and most recently, Black Cloud Rising. The New Yorker chose Fire on the Beach as one of its notable selections, and the St. Louis Post-Dispatch named it one of its Best Books of 2001. Away Running was named an Outstanding International Book by the US Board on Books for Young People and was selected by the Junior Library Guild and the Texas Library Association for its high school reading lists. An excerpt from Black Cloud Rising, entitled “The Sand Banks, 1861,” appeared in the New Yorker. A former Fulbright Fellow to Brazil, David Wright Faladé is the 2021-22 Mary Ellen von der Heyden Fellow of the NY Public Library’s Cullman Center for Writers. His work has been recognized by the Zora Neale Hurston/Richard Wright Foundation, the National Endowment for the Humanities, and the Texas Institute of Letters. He teaches in the MFA program at the University of Illinois.
Tonia Ransom is the World Fantasy Award-winning creator and executive producer of “NIGHTLIGHT”, an IGNYTE Best Fiction Podcast featuring creepy tales written by Black writers, and Afflicted, a horror thriller best described as Lovecraft Country meets True Blood. Tonia has been scaring people since the second grade, when she wrote her first story based on Michael Myers. She successfully scared her teacher—just not in the way she intended, but she got hooked on that feeling and the rest is history. She lives in Austin, Texas. You can follow Tonia @missdefying on all the socials. Risen is her debut novel.
Chaitali Sen is the author of the novel The Pathless Sky and the story collection A New Race of Men from Heaven, chosen by Danielle Evans as the winner of the Mary McCarthy Prize in Short Fiction and one of Kirkus Reviews' 100 Best Fiction Books of 2023. Her stories and essays have been published by American Short Fiction, Boulevard, Catapult, Colorado Review, Ecotone, and many other publications. She holds an MFA from Hunter College - City University of New York, and currently lives in Central Texas.
