FICTION 500 Contest
Each month, Fiction 500 invites authors to submit an original work of fiction no longer than 500 words.THey strictly limit submissions to the first 500 entrants. The entry fee $12, and authors may only submit one story per contest. Fiction500 will provide a unique verbal or visual prompt for each contest, found on the website linked below. Instructors at the country’s top college creative writing programs will judge the contests.
Fiction500 will award $500 to the author of the winning story of each contest; $200 to the second-place story author, and $100 to the third-place author, as determined by the contest judges. At the end of the year, they e-publish an anthology of the year’s winners for the Kindle, Nook and iPad.

A non-profit arts service organization based in New York, will be collaborating with the Dallas Public Library System to fund professionally taught arts instruction programs for older adults. Lifetime Arts was created to advance the field of creative aging, which focuses on the beneficial and powerful role of the arts in enhancing the quality of life for older adults and has gained national recognition as a major contributor to the development of creative aging policies, best practices, and information services, artists training resources, technical assistance, and advocacy.

Author Rick Riordan to hold reading, Q&A session at Texas State
The Wittliff Collections at Texas State University-San Marcos present a reading from internationally renowned novelist Rick Riordan May 11 at 7 p.m. Riordan will speak and answer questions from the audience at the LBJ Student Center Ballroom on the Texas State Campus. Riordan is a New York Times best-selling author and Children’s Choice Book Award Author of the Year in 2011. He is the creator of Percy Jackson and the Olympian series, the Kane Chronicles, the Heroes of Olympus and the storyline and first volume of the 39 Clues, all for young readers
