WLT’S MANUSCRIPT CONTEST

Ever want professional feedback on an unpublished manuscript? The Writers’ League of Texas 2011 Manuscript Contest provides individual evaluations from published authors, and the finalists are reviewed by agents. The prize for the winner in each category is a one-on-one meeting with an agent or editor at the WLT’s Agents Conference June 10-12 in Austin. For more information, click here.
A CONVERSATION IN FILM WITH JAMES V. HART

Austin Film Festival & Texas Book Festival present a Conversation with acclaimed screenwriter James V. Hart followed by a special 20th anniversary screening of HOOK. Hart, whose screenwriting credits include BRAM STOKER’S DRACULA, CONTACT, TUCK EVERLASTING, MUPPETS TREASURE ISLAND, SAHARA, THE LAST MIMZY and AUGUST RUSH, has prepared a special clip reel that highlights memorable lines and moments from his films. In the conversation, Hart will share anecdotes and stories about how these films got made, concentrating on the screenwriter’s role and struggle in each. After the conversation, walk across the street to The Bob Bullock Texas State History Museum’s Texas Spirit Theater for a special 20th anniversary screening of the modern family classic, HOOK. THE TEXAS OBSERVER SHORT STORY PRIZE

The folks at The Texas Observer love a good story. Of course, the stories they’ve published over the past half-century (mostly hard-hitting investigative pieces) have been depressingly true. Help them change that. Send your best original short fiction for the first annual Texas Observer Short Story Prize. WLT’S MOZELLE MEMOIR CONTEST
