Badgerdog & Ballet Austin Present: In Front of Strangers I Sing

Austin, TX–(March 6th) At Ballet Austin on Sunday, March 11th, Badgerdog presents “In Front of Strangers I Sing.” The event, part of Ballet Austin’s ongoing Light/The Holocaust & Humanity Project, will feature performances by writers aged 8 to 80, alongside our special guest: Chorus Austin.

In January, Badgerdog’s teaching-artists began incorporating new lessons into their ongoing work in the classroom, lessons that highlighted writers of witness and exile. Our students encountered the work of poets like Osip Mandelstam, Federico García Lorca, and Mercé Rodoreda, writers who suffered through periods of genocide and civil unrest, writers who continued to write—if secretly—in the face of grave danger. The writers in our programs studied these poems as pieces of history and as evidence of courage, as bits of truth, and messages of hope. The work of these exiled writers inspired Badgerdog’s Youth Voices and Silver Voices to reflect on history’s most frightening moments and offer their own words of bravery, peace, and resilience.

Join us at Ballet Austin’s AustinVentures StudioTheater (701 W Riverside Dr.) from 2pm-3pm on Sunday, March 11th. Audience members can also receive a free chapbook with our writers’ work and essays about the courageous writers that inspired them.
