Leave this World Behind, Build Your Own

Hello Writers,

There’s a reason Science Fiction and Fantasy books are not a casual interest. Readers and writers of these genres get to leave this world, including its frustrating limitations, behind and to inhabit new ones, limited only by imagination. It’s upon the return to the real that we realize how effective a reflection an imagined world can be.

And here lies the opportunity and the charge for writers of Science Fiction and Fantasy, to create a world that is mirror, warning, and possibility, that will disappear its readers and return them changed. As Ursula K. Le Guin said, “Resistance and change often begin in art, and very often in our art, the art of words.”

If you are writing another world, don’t miss the opportunity to learn “Worldbuilding Tactics for Science Fiction and Fantasy” with Matt Bell this Saturday, November 4th. In addition to learning approaches to designing vivid fictional worlds, writers will also put them into practice with in-class exercises.

Registration closes tomorrow!
