Letters from the Program Director: A Great Writer Never Steals

Hello, writers!

There is so much to learn from all genres and forms of storytelling, but there are some forms and genres that do certain things particularly well. When it comes to creating scenes, no one does it better than screenwriters. Scenes are the building blocks of our stories and everything from pacing to characterization rely on what happens within them. Whether you’re writing a novel, short stories, or even a memoir, if you want to write memorable scenes that propel your stories forward, understanding how screenwriters accomplish this in their work is a great place to start.

That’s why we’re excited to be offering the class Lessons from Screenwriting: Creating Compelling Scenes” with Beverly Chukwu on Wednesday, November 2nd. If you want to better understand how to create compelling scenes that drive your story forward, this class is for you.

All the best,
Sam Babiak
Program Director
