Letters from the Program Director: It’s a Marathon

Hello writers,

When it comes to novel writing, we hear it all the time, “it’s a marathon, not a sprint.” This common saying holds true especially when we look at momentum. A novel usually begins with a burst of energy. You’re getting to know your characters, you’re setting up your plot, but as your word count rises, your momentum usually slows too. There are hundreds of pages to write and re-write and it’s not always clear what path you need to take to get to the end of your novel.

That’s why we’re excited to offer the class “Novel Writing: How to Refuel the Tank of Our First Drafts” with Stacey Swann on Saturday, June 3. If you’ve hit a wall in the first draft of your novel, or you’re worried your plot ideas are too thin to sustain a whole book, this class is for you.

All the best,

Sam Babiak

Program Director
