Hello, writers!
Writing about your personal experiences is an incredibly vulnerable thing to do and all the negative voices in your head can be really loud when it comes to other people reading your work. You might worry that no one will care about your story or understand it, but at the end of the day, the point of it all is to share your stories so that others might learn something or so someone out there might feel less alone in their experiences. But if you want your stories to mean anything to anyone, you need to understand resonance and how it is accomplished on the page. It is not enough to simply tell your story–you need to be thinking about the universal themes in your work that will help your words resonate with readers.
That’s why we’re excited to be offering the class “From Unique to Universal: Making Your Personal Narratives Resonate with Readers” with Jasminne Mendez on Saturday, April 16.
