Every year, the Writers’ League of Texas brings 20-25 literary agents and book editors to Austin for its Agents & Editors Conference. As we look ahead to the 29th Annual A&E Conference, taking place June 24 – 26, 2022, we’re happy to share Q&As with some of our visiting agents and editors here.
An Interview with David Forrer
David Forrer has been an agent with InkWell Management since 2004, representing writers of both fiction and non-fiction. David Forrer began his career in publishing in 1997 after receiving a Masters in Creative Writing (fiction) from Boston University. He has been an agent with InkWell Management since it was created in 2004. His areas of interest and representation range from literary, commercial, historical and crime fiction to suspense/thriller, humorous non-fiction and popular history.

Scribe: How would you describe your personal approach to working with an author?
David Forrer: Ideally it’s a collaborative long-term relationship. I’m part editor, part financial planner, part life coach, etc..
Scribe: What do you look for in a debut author?
DF: A great hook, original voice, fresh perspective.
Scribe: What’s one piece of advice you find yourself giving to others time and time again?
DF: Keep writing.
Scribe: What excites you the most about the publishing industry today?
DF: It’s hard work but there’s always the possibility of success around the corner if you keep trying.
Scribe: Tell us about a recent book/project that you worked on that excited you and you want everyone to know about?
DF: I worked with a young writer on a book proposal for history of Fire Island that’s publishing in June 2022.
