Scribe: In what genre(s) do you write?
Karen Witemeyer: I write Christian historical romance for Bethany House Publishing. All of my stories are set in Texas and feature feisty heroines, rugged heroes, lighthearted humor, page-turning plots, and sigh-inducing happy endings.
Scribe: What authors would you like to have coffee or a beer with and which beverage?
KW: I’m more of a hot tea gal, myself, so I’d choose a cozy fireside chat with either hot tea or hot chocolate. And since it’s always more fun to  chat with friends, I’ll invite some of my favorite authors who are also dear friends: Mary Connealy (always ready with a witty quip and a hunky cowboy hero), Dani Pettrey (sweet as can be but with a twisted mind that can create masterful suspense plots), Regina Jennings (she’s an Okie, but we’ll all forgive her for that since she somehow got me to go line dancing with her at RT this past year in Dallas), and Kristi Ann Hunter (a debut regency-era novelist who will no doubt supply a DVD copy of the BBC version of Pride and Prejudice for us all to watch while we sip our toasty beverages–get togethers are always more fun when we can sigh together over Mr. Darcy.)
Scribe: If you were stranded on a deserted island, what book would you want to have with you to keep you sane?
KW: Hmm…That is a torturous question for a book lover. How to choose just one? Since I’m a novelist, I think I’m going to choose my favorite classic novel Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte. No matter how bad being stranded on a deserted island turns out to be, I could read about poor young Jane and realize that things could be much worse. I could gain strength from her defiant spirit and courage in the face of adversity. I could find hope in watching her overcome all her obstacles to find true love at the end of her story. If she could be reunited with her beloved Edward, surely I could get off this island and find my way back home to my family.
Scribe: What have you learned from your association with the Writers’ League?
KW: Since I’m brand new, I haven’t learned too much yet, but I love how the Writers’ League supports rural Texas libraries with their Texas Writes program. Growing up, my library card was my most prized possession. I would bring stacks of books home every week. Now that I have children of my own, I want to help support and preserve those same libraries not only for my own children, but for generations to come.
Scribe: Where do you see your writing taking you (or you taking it) in the future?
KW: In the very near future, my writing is taking me to two places that I would have never dreamed possible just a few short years ago. I’ve been fortunate enough to have my books translated into Dutch and German, and in the upcoming few months, my foreign publishers are doing me the great honor of bringing me to their home countries to meet readers on the other side of the world. In November 2015, I’m heading to The Netherlands and in May 2016, I’ll be traveling to Germany. Dream big, my friends. You never know where your writing may take you.
Scribe: Is there anything else about you that you would like to share with the world? An opportunity for blatant self-promotion!

KW: My favorite hobby (besides reading) is cross-stitching. I live next door to my in-laws and actually LIKE it. I love Disney fairy tales. Oh, and I’m a best-selling author who loves contributing happy endings to a world where far too few exist.
I love to visit with readers, and I give away free books every month to a member of my newsletter list, so stop by my website to learn more about my books and to sign up for my monthly giveaways.
