Michael Sirois has been a member of Writers’ League of Texas for about four years. He makes his home in Spring, Texas. He will be attending the Agents & Editors Conference in June.
Scribe: In what genre(s) do you write?
Michael Sirois: Lately I’ve been writing mysteries and thrillers, but I’ve dabbled in horror, and in some character driven, multi-threaded psychological stories. I don’t care much for labels (but I know they’re necessary). I just like sending my characters out into the world and hope they’ll let me follow along.
Scribe: What authors would you like to have coffee or a beer with and which beverage?
MS: I wouldn’t turn down a session of beer drinking with Nick Hornby, Justin Cronin, Barbara Kingsolver, and — of course–Stephen King. Hornby, because we’re on the same page musically, Cronin for his writing style, Kingsolver for her ecological sensibilities, and King because, well, he’s Stephen-freaking-King.
Scribe: If you were stranded on a deserted island, what book would you want to have with you to keep you sane?
MS: I think it would be a mistake to presuppose that I’m sane, but I’d probably end up without a book, because it would take me too long to pick a favorite. You don’t suppose they’ll ever package A Song of Ice and Fire in one volume, do you? Or all of Ian Rankin’s Detective Rebus mysteries?
Scribe: What have you learned from your association with the Writers League?
MS: I’ve learned that the League has a lot of big-hearted, genuinely nice people, and I have learned a great deal from them.
Scribe: Where do you see your writing taking you (or you taking it) in the future?
MS: It would be nice if it would lead me to publication, and millions of adoring fans (not the crazy kind, though). I’m still holding out for a traditional deal and agent representation, but I’m slowly wavering as the market becomes more accepting of self-publication.
Scribe: Is there anything else about you that you would like to share with the world?
MS: I am out there in the Blog/Web/Twitter-verse (see below), but I wish I lived in Austin. Houston’s great, but I wouldn’t mind being a lot closer to WLT.
