Roda Grubb has been a member of the Writers’ League for one year. She lives in McAllen, Texas.
Scribe: In what genre(s) do you write?
Roda Grubb: Fiction and nonfiction. As a feature writer, I have written about a wide variety of topics. I still write for the McAllen Chamber of Commerce and other local entities. My books are spiritually based fantasy-fiction, so far. Next up is my husband’s bio, a fascinating story about him from when he was out on the streets of Topeka at seven-years old selling newspapers, through his alcoholic years to becoming a pastor at 68. I just love to write and tell stories to my readers.
Scribe: What authors would you like to have coffee or a beer with and which beverage?
RG: I’d love to have a cappuccino with Diana Cooper, Doreen Virtue, Donita K Paul, C.S. Lewis, Jan Karon, Christopher Paolini, Sidney Kirkpatrick, J.R.R. Tolkien, and Stephanie Meyer.
Scribe: If you were stranded on a deserted island, what book would you want to have with you to keep you sane?
RG: There are so many books I love it’s hard to decide. I think my soon to be published book, Isle of Foote, would be one. Since I created the world, it’s fun to keep involved and see what the characters will do next. Another one would be Way of the Peaceful Warrior by Dan Millman and perhaps A Course in Miracles to study.
Scribe: What have you learned from your association with the Writers’ League?
RG: I’ve learned there’s a whole world of writers out there and we’re all in this together. Being in McAllen doesn’t allow me the time to attend the workshops but the contests are good to participate in for my books.
Scribe: Where do you see your writing taking you (or you taking it) in the future?
RG: I would hope, as most writers do, that my books will be well received and I’ll be able to make a living doing the thing I’m most passionate about – writing.
Scribe: Is there anything else about you that you would like to share with the world? An opportunity for blatant self-promotion!
RG: Using a successful Kickstarter program in 2014, I was able to publish Rocksann Finds God, a storybook for all ages about an inquisitive girl whose mother sends her out to have God answer her questions. Rocksann’s quest to find God, and the ensuing conversation, are enlightening, answering in simple terms some of the questions of the universe. A great book with 11 beautiful illustrations by a phenomenal local artist, Senorina Velia Roberts. Isle of Foote, on the other hand, is a roller coaster ride of a fantasy. Everelle and seven strangers find themselves fleeing their burning world led by a mysterious stranger. Following him into a cave leads them to another world, the mystical Isle of Foote. Persuaded to help save Foote from destruction, the eight leave their lives behind to set out on the quest. With adventures involving giants, wizards, dragons and more, Isle of Foote will take the reader on their own inner journey to find their passion. Isle of Foote will be out later this year.
