Meet the Members: C. J. Korryn

“I am working on growing my readership and writing skills…”

Scribe: Welcome, writer! Tell us — what do you write?

C.J. Korryn: Currently, most of my fiction is faith-based (Bible stories written through a character-based lens), but I have also published books in science fiction and fantasy. I am also in the middle of writing a plethora of other manuscripts from several other genres.

Scribe: If you could choose one author to blurb your book, who would it be, and what would you want it to say?

C.J.K: That is a difficult question as I don’t read much Christian fiction but for my fantasy, R. A. Salvatore. I don’t know who I would pick for my sci-fi books.

Scribe: You have one book you’re allowed to push onto all of your friends, and they’re forced to read it to remain your friend — which one would you choose?

C.J.K: The Crystal Shard by R. A. Salvatore

Scribe: Tell us your WLT story.

C.J.K: I am working on growing my readership and writing skills, and I found out about a book event at my local library. They explained their affiliation with several professional writing groups. My graduate creative writing professor also mentioned several professional writing groups, including the Writer’s League of Texas.

Scribe: Where do you see your writing taking you (or you taking it) in the future?

C.J.K: A couple of my books have been nominated for the Christian Literary Awards, and I recently won the National Impact Book Award, so I am hopeful to grow my writing presence enough that I can write full-time and only need a part time job. Ideally, of course (as every writer dreams) I would love to write full-time with more than enough income to pay the bills.

Scribe: Here at the WLT, we love sharing book recommendations. What’s one book that has come out within the past few years that you couldn’t put down? (Bonus points if the book is Texas related!)

C.J.K: I haven’t read any books that are newly published, but there is a book series that I read via audiobook. I highly recommend this author. Battlegroup Z by Daniel Gibbs is the series that I just bought book after book right after completing each one. It is definitely a great military science fiction series.

Scribe: Is there anything else about you that you would like to share with the world? An opportunity for blatant self-promotion!

C.J.K: I write Christian fiction and mainstream fiction. I have eight published books and about a dozen stories that are in different stages of development. Two of my published books I write as serial novels through a monthly subscription platform, then when I am finished with series, I publish them into novels. It takes about two years to complete one book, as I write a chapter a month.

I joke that my ADHD helps me to be able to write multiple books simultaneously. I write one for a bit, then jump to the next book I “feel” like writing.
