Meet the Members: Cathy Lovelady

“I hope to publish at least one of my books in the near future. I would love to see one of my stories being made into a movie.”

Cathy Lovelady

A member of the Writers’ League since 2024, Cathy lives in the Kempner, TX area.

Scribe: Welcome, writer! Tell us — what do you write?

Cathy Lovelady: I have written newspaper columns, copywriting for a few companies, and I have published a short story for children. I have been writing novels and screenplays the last few years. Most of my writing is in the romance genre for mature women.

Scribe: If you could choose one author to blurb your book, who would it be, and what would you want it to say?

CL: EL James would say, “Ladies, this is hot! Who knew you could have this much fun in a camper!”

Scribe: You have one book you’re allowed to push onto all of your friends, and they’re forced to read it to remain your friend — which one would you choose?

CL: Twilight by Stephanie Meyer is a great book that I really enjoyed and I would never have guessed I would pick on my own. I enjoyed the whole series and the films. They are tame and that’s another reason I would pick that book. No political triggers anywhere.

Scribe: Tell us your WLT story.

CL: I have had no real connection with WLT before but a writer who I was in a critique group with became a member and I really respect her writing and her career.

Scribe: Where do you see your writing taking you (or you taking it) in the future?

CL: I hope to publish at least one of my books in the near future. I would love to see one of my stories being made into a movie. I participated in the Austin Film Festival this year and though I didn’t win anything, I felt very encouraged to continue writing screenplays.

Scribe: Here at the WLT, we love sharing book recommendations. What’s one book that has come out within the past few years that you couldn’t put down? (Bonus points if the book is Texas related!)

CL: The Missus by EL James. I read it three times. So far.

Scribe: Is there anything else about you that you would like to share with the world? An opportunity for blatant self-promotion!

CL: When I was young ‘they’ told me to write what you know. Then I looked at publisher’s submission guidelines and they said, ‘do not submit any sexual content.’ I was stumped. I didn’t have anything else I knew much about. I’m glad things have changed. And I am glad I have widened my horizons!

Scribe: Let us know any social media handles you have!

CL: @love77lady is my handle on Instagram. Cathy Lovelady is who I am on Facebook.
