Scribe: Welcome, writer! Tell us — what do you write?
Gwendolyn Womack: Hello WLT! I write fantastical thrillers. Several travel through time.
Scribe: If you could choose one author to blurb your book, who would it be, and what would you want it to say?
GW: Michael Crichton – and any blurb… hopefully that he enjoyed the story. I wish he was still with us.
Scribe: You have one book you’re allowed to push onto all of your friends, and they’re forced to read it to remain your friend — which one would you choose?
GW: Circe by Madeline Miller is one of my all-time favorite books and exquisitely written. I’d only push it on them so we could talk about it over coffee or wine. :)
Scribe: Tell us your WLT story.
GW: I’m originally from Houston and was living in Los Angeles for many years. In 2023, I moved back to Houston and joined WLT. I attended the WLT Houston meetup and look forward to future happenings. Perhaps we can even get a Houston Chapter going regularly. Austin is having all the fun.
Scribe: Where do you see your writing taking you (or you taking it) in the future?
GW: More books! I have several stories lined up in my head to write. I’ve also recently been kicking around the idea of writing a theatre play for the first time in decades. My background is in theatre and screenwriting, and I’ve gotten the inkling of an idea to take an old screenplay of mine and adapt it for the stage, which could be fun.
Scribe: Here at the WLT, we love sharing book recommendations. What’s one book that has come out within the past few years that you couldn’t put down? (Bonus points if the book is Texas related!)
GW: I’m currently reading The Bane Witch by Ava Morgyn, another Houston author. The book comes out March 18th this year, and I am completely enthralled. The tagline for it is Gone Girl meets Practical Magic. It’s a riveting read!
