“Because of that talk, I signed up for Twitter and participated in #pitmad. That’s how I found my publisher and got my big break!“

Scribe: Welcome, writer! Tell us — what do you write?
Jessica Thompson: Mostly culinary cozy mysteries, but my next, next book is a classic mystery.
Scribe: If you could choose one author to blurb your book, who would it be, and what would you want it to say?
JT: If I could have any author living or dead? Agatha Christie. Living? Josi Kilpack or Ellie Alexander. I guess it would just say that I could keep up with any of them!
Scribe: You have one book you’re allowed to push onto all of your friends, and they’re forced to read it to remain your friend — which one would you choose?
JT: I would say Cooked by Michael Pollan, but my own mother couldn’t finish it, so my second choice would be The Murder of Roger Ackroyd by Agatha Christie.
Scribe: Tell us your WLT story.
JT: I was convinced to come with a friend and the first event we ever came to was a session about writers working with agents with Amy Gentry. She talked about how she found her agent on Twitter through #pitmad. Because of that talk, I signed up for Twitter and participated in #pitmad. That’s how I found my publisher and got my big break!
Scribe: Where do you see your writing taking you (or you taking it) in the future?
JT: I would love to keep publishing with my small publisher for a little while, then get and agent and “graduate.”
Scribe: Here at the WLT, we love sharing book recommendations. What’s one book that has come out within the past few years that you couldn’t put down? (Bonus points if the book is Texas related!)
JT: I would say Ain’t Nobody Nobody but I think that came out more than a year ago. I’ll say A Girl Called Ruthless. I just finished the ARC and it was really interesting in tone. Fun, but dark.
Scribe: Is there anything else about you that you would like to share with the world? An opportunity for blatant self-promotion!
JT: My newest book is open for preorders on Amazon! It’s a holiday-themed cozy mystery called A Caterer’s Guide to Holidays and Homicide.
Scribe: Where can our readers find more of you?
JT: I am @jessicathauthor on Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter.
