Scribe: Welcome, writer! Tell us — what do you write?

Joe Betar: Fiction: Adult Mystery & Political Thrillers.

Scribe: If you could choose one author to blurb your book, who would it be, and what would you want it to say?

JB: Jack Carr; “This book is a rollercoaster of personal conflict, avarice, and retribution across multiple continents. Joe’s protagonist is a conflicted, relatable character forced to evolve from the role of a victim to that of avenger. Revenge thriller fans…strap in for a bumpy ride.”

Scribe: You have one book you’re allowed to push onto all of your friends, and they’re forced to read it to remain your friend — which one would you choose?

JB: Fight Club by Chuck Palahniuk: it is gritty, unpredictable, and uncomfortable– and discomfort is often the best motivator for change.

Scribe: Tell us your WLT story.

JB: Being a new writer, I found WLT via Internet search in hopes of connecting with the knowledgeable and the visionary.

Scribe: Where do you see your writing taking you (or you taking it) in the future?

JB: I began writing during the pandemic and the ideas flowed with surprising ease. I have completed drafts of my first two novels and am currently working on the third. I hope to find a home for my work. If I do, I see writing as consuming the next phase of my life.

Scribe: Here at the WLT, we love sharing book recommendations. What’s one book that has come out within the past year that you couldn’t put down? (Bonus points if the book is Texas related!)

JB: In The Blood by Jack Carr.

Scribe: Is there anything else about you that you would like to share with the world? An opportunity for blatant self-promotion!

JB: I am a former practicing registered nurse, medical sales professional and marketing executive in the medical device industry before being called to the field of conservation where I have served in leadership roles for organizations focused on domestic and international wildlife and habitat initiatives and government affairs. I am an award-winning publisher, television producer and podcaster. My writings are the culmination of experiences with the many colorful characters and interactions I have experienced through my life and adventures.
