Scribe: Welcome, writer! Tell us — what do you write?
Jonathan Fuller: Science fiction, fantasy, and science fantasy short stories and novels. Plus the occasional blog post!
Scribe: If you could choose one author to blurb your book, who would it be, and what would you want it to say?
JF: Timothy Zahn, and I would be over the moon if he praised my world-building and character development, because he does a phenomenal job with those writing elements.
Scribe: You have one book you’re allowed to push onto all of your friends, and they’re forced to read it to remain your friend — which one would you choose?
JF: Gardens of the Moon by Steven Erikson. It’s the first book of his Malazan Book of the Fallen fantasy series and contains the most unique magic system I’ve ever come across. Also, his ability to come up with succinct, witty character names is truly inspired.
Scribe: Tell us your WLT story.
JF: I’m new to being a published author, so I went hunting online for local author communities and organizations that I could join. After doing some research, WLT was by far the best fit. I’m excited to network with other members and take advantage of the resources and opportunities available through WLT!
Scribe: Where do you see your writing taking you (or you taking it) in the future?
JF: In the short-term, my writing will be focused on the sequel to my debut co-authored novel and my solo fantasy project. Further down the road, I’d love to be part of a video game project.
Scribe: Here at the WLT, we love sharing book recommendations. What’s one book that has come out within the past few years that you couldn’t put down? (Bonus points if the book is Texas related!)
JF: I absolutely devoured Even Though I Knew the End by C. L. Polk. The writing, setting, and character development is absolutely brilliant.
Scribe: Is there anything else about you that you would like to share with the world? An opportunity for blatant self-promotion!
JF: My debut co-authored novel, Trials of the Innermost, releases on May 26th! It’s a science fantasy novel written for adults that will appeal to fans of the intersection of magic and technology, a la Horizon Zero Dawn. Trials of the Innermost, affectionately known as TOTI, also features queer MCs, crystal magic, dark warriors, and collaborative adventure. TOTI is available for pre-order through my publisher, Hansen House, at https://www.hansenhousebooks.com/product/trials-of-the-innermost/
