“I have always wanted to be an author, and now that I am, I feel like the sky is the limit.”

Scribe: Welcome, writer! Tell us — what do you write?
Kaitlin Felix: I write Viking Age Historical Fiction and Fantasy, but I have also released a folk horror audio drama and short stories in the past.
Scribe: If you could choose one author to blurb your book, who would it be, and what would you want it to say?
KF: I’d love Giles Kristian to blurb my book. If he called it a rip-roaring adventure, or even just enjoyable, I’d be happy.
Scribe: You have one book you’re allowed to push onto all of your friends, and they’re forced to read it to remain your friend — which one would you choose?
KF: The Searcher by Tana French. This book is such an incredible exploration of choice and agency, who to trust, and the consequences of secrets. I couldn’t put it down, and I recommended it to my bookclub here in Zurich. We spent hours discussing it.
Scribe: Tell us your WLT story.
KF: I live in Switzerland, but recently I was back in Texas visiting family. It made me think about how as a writer, this job can be a bit isolating, and I wondered if there was a place for Texan writers to gather.
Scribe: Where do you see your writing taking you (or you taking it) in the future?
KF: I have always wanted to be an author, and now that I am, I feel like the sky is the limit. I don’t know what the future holds, or what this career may bring, but I’m ready for the adventure.
Scribe: Here at the WLT, we love sharing book recommendations. What’s one book that has come out within the past few years that you couldn’t put down? (Bonus points if the book is Texas related!)
KF: The Blackhouse by Carole Johnstone. It has such a moody atmosphere, and the characters are full and rich and complicated. It’s set in Scotland, which I love, and much of the plot deals with mental health, and the pain of healing. I ached in the best way when I finished it, and the book hangover was intense. I think about this book often and will reread it every year.
Scribe: Is there anything else about you that you would like to share with the world? An opportunity for blatant self-promotion!
KF: My first novel Rán’s Daughters was released with Outland Entertainment on March 4, 2025! It’s set in the 10th century Viking Age, and is a female-driven bloody adventure full of betrayal, treasure, and sea-salt.
