Scribe: Welcome, writer! Tell us — what do you write?

Kollin Kennedy: Poetry/Fiction/Short Stories/Flash Fiction

Scribe: If you could choose one author to blurb your book, who would it be, and what would you want it to say?

KK: It would probably be Stephen King. I wouldn’t regard him as my favorite writer of all time, but I would say he has had an influence on my writing nonetheless as with others of our generation and has a commanding influence over film and other works of art within our society. It seems he’s one of the more serious artists of our generation, and it would be a treat if he would say something about my work.

Scribe: You have one book you’re allowed to push onto all of your friends, and they’re forced to read it to remain your friend — which one would you choose?

KK: There are so many! I would like to choose three: Gargantua and Pantagruel by Rabelais, The Decameron by Giovanni Boccaccio, or Moby Dick by Herman Melville. If they would like something more 20th century, I would suggest On The Road by Jack Kerouac and/or Ulysses by James Joyce.

Scribe: Tell us your WLT story.

KK: While at an Orlando Conference, someone was speaking about expanding your network. I’ve joined local/small groups in my area, but it never occurred to me that I can join writing groups bigger with the power to also help you promote your book and break down doors that many writers struggle when it comes to publishing or selling their book. During the break of the conference, I just looked on Google ‘big writing groups in Texas’ and WLT was the first that popped up. It seems a bit ridiculous I was never aware of the group before, but it all came to me just from the realization I can join bigger groups with great power just from looking them up.

Scribe: Where do you see your writing taking you (or you taking it) in the future?

KK: I see my writing taking me to greater heights in the future. I have great ambition to contribute to the literary arts of America since it seems in the 21st century there isn’t many great art movements going on, other than someone putting another ‘post’ in front of ‘modernism’. I also feel there are plenty of works that lack artistic drive, and are only out in the public eye to make Barnes and Noble look good. I believe a great change will occur in literature in the future, and I want to be at the forefront of it with style, purpose, and a bit of integrity with my writing, as well as giving people a sense of satisfaction in this life. Art is a celebration, but it seems lots of it is cofounded with a bunch of complaining, politics, and useless information that doesn’t lessen the strain of the human condition.

Scribe: Here at the WLT, we love sharing book recommendations. What’s one book that has come out within the past few years that you couldn’t put down? (Bonus points if the book is Texas related!)

KK: None. As I’ve said a bit in my last entry, most works nowadays are shoddy and seems to be pandering to an audience. Of course, I’ve read self-help books and new-age fiction, but I couldn’t say that any of them have gripped my attention from the past year.

Scribe: Is there anything else about you that you would like to share with the world? An opportunity for blatant self-promotion!

KK: I hope to connect with other writers who have the same artistic ambitions as me! I recently released a collection of poetry entitled A Blue Period, which can be found on my website https://kollinkennedy.com/ and on Amazon, and I’m currently working on a fanfiction of Batman while also planning on releasing another collection of poetry and a novella sometime soon. Thank you!
