Meet the Members: Richard May

“A critic wrote that my book Last Race was ‘the most bizarre and entertaining book I’ve read in years.’ That’s how I like to interpret the world we live in.” —Richard May

A member of the Writers’ League since 2025, Richard lives in the Austin, TX area.

Scribe: Welcome, writer! Tell us — what do you write?

Richard May: Fiction, Thriller, Contemporary – addressing societal issues.

Scribe: If you could choose one author to blurb your book, who would it be, and what would you want it to say?

RM: Stephen King – “thought provoking.”

Scribe: You have one book you’re allowed to push onto all of your friends, and they’re forced to read it to remain your friend — which one would you choose?

RM: The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.

Scribe: Tell us your WLT story.

RM: I organized the Austin Arts Alliance – an advocacy group representing the main arts groups (film, music, theater, visual and literature) to help pass the Austin bond-supporting arts organizations. Found out the WLT was the group who represented Austin and Texas authors so I recruited their representation. When I wrote my first book, the WLT was my go-to group to help guide me through the process.

Scribe: Where do you see your writing taking you (or you taking it) in the future?

RM: My dream of being a full-time author.

Scribe: Here at the WLT, we love sharing book recommendations. What’s one book that has come out within the past few years that you couldn’t put down? (Bonus points if the book is Texas related!)

RM: The Life of Chuck.

Scribe: Is there anything else about you that you would like to share with the world? An opportunity for blatant self-promotion!

RM: A critic wrote that my book Last Race was “the most bizarre and entertaining book I’ve read in years.” That’s how I like to interpret the world we live in.

Scribe: Let us know any social media handles you have!
