Scribe: Welcome, writer! Tell us — what do you write?

Sharona Washington-Lockett: Children’s picture books.

Scribe: If you could choose one author to blurb your book, who would it be, and what would you want it to say?

SWL: Shel Silverstein- They would say that my book is a book that all kids need and will learn from.

Scribe: You have one book you’re allowed to push onto all of your friends, and they’re forced to read it to remain your friend — which one would you choose?

SWL: Night, because this book was written in a way that made you feel like you were there. This book was also so emotional and was on a topic that is hard to discuss. I learned a lot from this book. Empathy is a must!

Scribe: Tell us your WLT story.

SWL: WLT was introduced to me by my previous ophthalmologist. We have remained very good friends and have stayed in touch. I was revealing to her that I will be self-publishing my children’s book and the very next day she surprised me with a membership to the WLT. What an amazing friend and gift!

Scribe: Where do you see your writing taking you (or you taking it) in the future?

SWL: I would love to create a series of children’s books. I want to touch as many children’s hearts as possible, as they touch my heart.

Scribe: Here at the WLT, we love sharing book recommendations. What’s one book that has come out within the past few years that you couldn’t put down? (Bonus points if the book is Texas related!)

SWL: Finding Me.

Scribe: Is there anything else about you that you would like to share with the world? An opportunity for blatant self-promotion!

SWL: I am writing my first children’s book. I am excited about this journey and am eager to learn more! This is my personal story as a child. This book is about a girl who has health challenges and the way she overcomes them. Roni’s Big Day– Coming 8/2023
