Meet the Members: Teresa H. Janssen

Connecting with Texas writers, book store owners, publicists, and conference volunteers has been enjoyable.

Teresa H. Janssen

A member of the Writers’ League since 2023, Teresa lives in the Port Townsend, WA area.

Scribe: Welcome, writer! Tell us — what do you write?

Teresa H. Janssen: I write across genres…most recently a novel, inspired by the lore of my Texas pioneer family. I also write essays and short fiction.

Scribe: If you could choose one author to blurb your book, who would it be, and what would you want it to say?

THJ: Willa Cather (though it’s too late for that!) I would hope that she would note that my historical novel paints a realistic picture of my forebears’ experiences in the West.

Scribe: You have one book you’re allowed to push onto all of your friends, and they’re forced to read it to remain your friend — which one would you choose?

THJ: A River Runs Through It by Norman Maclean.

Scribe: Tell us your WLT story.

THJ: In researching my novel, I rediscovered my central Texas pioneer family history. Connecting with Texas writers, book store owners, publicists, and conference volunteers has been enjoyable.

Scribe: Where do you see your writing taking you (or you taking it) in the future?

THJ: I am looking forward to writing more place-based nonfiction and fiction.

Scribe: Here at the WLT, we love sharing book recommendations. What’s one book that has come out within the past few years that you couldn’t put down? (Bonus points if the book is Texas related!)

THJ: At What Cost, Silence? by Karen Klink. (Her first book in a Texas trilogy).

Scribe: Is there anything else about you that you would like to share with the world? An opportunity for blatant self-promotion!

THJ: My historical novel, The Ways of Water, was inspired by my grandmother’s coming-of-age in the early 1900’s Texas, New Mexico, and Arizona. For readers who enjoy finely-crafted literary fiction and an immersive family saga. More about the book at: https://www.teresahjanssen.com.

Scribe: Let us know any social media handles you have!

THJ: https://www.facebook.com/teresahjanssen on FaceBook.
