Classes

About our Classes

WLT online classes feature a variety of topics taught by outstanding instructors. These live webinars (on Zoom) offer something of interest for all writers – from novice to professional. With some exceptions, classes are usually three hours in length and taught by a single instructor on a specific craft of writing or business of publishing topic.

Our classes offer a combination of lecture and practical exercises, determined by the individual instructor, on focused aspects of the craft and business of writing. Your fellow participants will come from a range of writing experience, from beginners to people with MFA degrees and published books. WLT instructors, participants, and administrators all work together to create a welcoming, supportive environment.

If you haven’t taken a class with us in recent years, feel free to email the WLT staff at wlt@writersleague.org if you’d like to discuss whether our programming is the right fit for your needs.

What our attendees have had to say...

Stay in the know, read our Weekly Class Newsletter.

Once you register for the class, you’ll receive an email with detailed instructions no later than 48 hours before the class date. You should expect 2-2.5 hours of direct teaching and 30 minutes of Q&A (for three hours total). If you need to leave the class early or can’t attend the class on that date, all registrants will have access to the recording for one week after the class date. No microphone or camera required, just an Internet connection capable of streaming video. All online classes are hosted on Zoom.

Plan to log in to the online platform about 30 minutes before the class so that you can update your software or any other settings required to access the platform. (Updates usually only take a few minutes, but you don’t want to wait until the beginning of class.) Questions? Email us at wlt@writersleague.org.

WLT hosts all online classes on Zoom.

The links to the Zoom webinar are sent out a few days before the class date. Below is more information on using Zoom, as well as some useful tips for the best online class experience.

If you have never taken an online class with us, you may need to download the Zoom app onto your device if you have not already. You can download the Zoom app here. You will not need to log in to the app. You only need to download it and then click on the class link emailed to you.

If you log in early, you will not see any class info. The webinar will not start until the instructor has logged in.

When you click the class link, you will be asked for a screen name and email address. The screen name is simply the name you would like to be known by during the class. Once logged in, you can move your mouse to the bottom of the screen to pull up different options, one being the chat box. When you type a message, make sure it is sent to everyone (not just the panelists).

For troubleshooting issues, please take a look at Zoom’s FAQ page here.

Lastly, if you are ever missing class or Zoom information, please check your spam folder first. Our emails tend to go to spam if you’ve never been emailed by us before! If you still can’t find the information you’re looking for, email WLT Staff here .

Once a purchase has been made, registrations are not refundable and cannot be transferred to a different class or event. No exceptions will be made. If you purchase a registration and then find you cannot attend the class or event, someone else can attend in your stead. Simply contact us at wlt@writersleague.org and let us know the name and contact information for the person who will be using the registration so that we can update the class or event roster.

All credit card transactions will incur a 4% handling fee. If you’d prefer to pay by check for a class or an event, you can use the mail in form here, and mail to: WLT, P.O. Box 14355, Austin, TX, 78704.
