An Ode to Mama
Your Clothes
– Judith Kroll
Of course they are empty shells, without hope of animation.
Of course they are artifacts.
Even if my sister and I should wear some,
or if we give others away,
they will always be your clothes without you,
as we will always be your daughters without you.
With Sunday being Mothers’ Day, we can find our inspiration from Mom. This week write a 15 line poem or 1 page story introduction about ‘mother.’ It can be your mother (praising, full of anger, or elegiac), life as a mom, or watching the mother of your children. The option is open. Family is always a very emotional pool of inspiration, let the first draft guide you to something, then once in revision edit out any ‘sappy’ or ‘angst ridden’ teen diary-like content. You have permission to go there, though! Happy Mothers’ Day and happy writing.
