The last official in-person event the WLT hosted before the world shut down was on February 29, 2020 on the 2nd floor of BookPeople in Austin. It was a pretty big deal – hosting an event on the 2nd floor (we almost exclusively held our events tucked away on the 3rd floor; yes, BookPeople has a 3rd floor!) during prime store traffic time, bringing together a standing room only crowd to talk about writerly things. It was also the event when Sam Babiak debuted as Program Director of the WLT (and how fortunate we’ve been to have Sam at the helm of our classes and events ever since, through a time of great change and many challenges).
Tomorrow night, we’re returning to the spot where it all came to a halt just three years ago. We will be hosting our monthly Third Thursday panel discussion in person for the first time since February 2020. We’ll be at BookPeople in Austin once again – on the 2nd floor! full circle! – with three pretty amazing writers who are going to share their unique perspectives on creativity, inspiration, and the writing life.
To make the whole thing even more special, BookPeople has designated the WLT the recipient of their Day of Sales giving program for tomorrow – which means that a portion of all in-store purchases will go to support the work we’re doing to support Texas writers and our state’s literary community. (So… even if you can’t make it for the program at 7:00 PM, consider stopping by BookPeople during the day to pick up your next great read. We’d be so appreciative!).
We’ll be celebrating with genre buttons and giveaways and good cheer. Join us if you can! (And if you can’t make it, please know we’ll be back on Zoom for the March program – all about writing short fiction – details below.)
See you soon,
